When Destiny 2's Faction Rallies going live, it's time to settle something once and for all: Which Faction in the popular Bungie shooter is the best? Who should Guardians pledge their allegiance to? You decide.
The first Destiny saw three primary factions rooted with the game's Tower, each with their own agenda. While players completed specific events in support of their chose Faction, Guardians were then rewarded with exclusive gear only available for those pledged faithfully. Be it Crucible runs, raid completion, or a plethora of other in-game events - by showing favor to one specific faction, players were able to outfit their Guardians in high-quality gear specifically tailored to the group in question.
As the Destiny 2 Faction Rallies kicks off, there are three different groups that players can commit to: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and the New Monarchy.
The Dead Orbit can be found on the main floor in the Tower. Their main colour scheme will have Guardians donning a familiar black and white motif while fighting for their honor. Their motto? 'The Traveler is not our only salvation. Another future lies out among the light of other stars.' The Dead Orbit believe that the reckoning is coming and that their only hope of survival is to abandon everything they know and retreat into deep space.

Those who join this faction will follow Arach Jalaal.
For the full gear that can be earned by joining the Dead Orbit, check out our Faction coverage here.
The Future War Cult (represent!) can be found on the upper level of the west hangar at the Tower. Led the exo Lakshmi-2, this vibrantly coloured group will have Guardians donning rich purples, golds, and oranges. With a motto like 'There is no future but now. No truth but war,' these guys don't mess around and they are always prepared.
For more on the Future War Cult, and all of their sweet loot, check out our guide here.
The New Monarchy can be found in the lower level of the west bazaar in the Tower. This faction is led by the respected Executor Hideo whose call to arms bears the colours red and white. Their motto? 'Hope will be born from the collective triumphs of the king in us all.'
The New Monarchy aims to user in humanity into the Golden Age. One interesting little tidbit is that New Monarchy helped to dissolve a previously established faction called Concordat under Lysander. A few discovered easter eggs suggests that Lysander is still alive and is currently rallying support against the New Monarchy away from the City.
So who is your favourite faction? Take your pick in the poll below and let us know what you think. Destiny 2 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a PC release slated for October 24th.
NOTE: This article contains minor story SPOILERS for Destiny 2 Russian conquest of siberia.

The time has come for Destiny 2 players to choose their faction - but which one offers the best perks and rewards? It's a more difficult question to answer than some will expect - especially those who sat out of the first game - and relies on a few different factors that players may not be walked through to the extent they would wish. So we're here to deliver a bit of backstory and explanation on the Dead Orbit, the New Monarchy, and the Future War Cult. The game will require players to speak to the leaders of each faction before pledging their loyalty to one, and joining the rush of the Faction Rally running from now until October 3rd, 2017.

The factions are nothing new to the core game, with all three being carried over from the prior version. Again, pledging loyalty to one faction allows players to cash in tokens for faction-specific weapons, armors, and shaders. But with the Faction Rallies of Destiny 2, each faction's Guardians will all be competing to help their team win a unique weapon.
The decision will ultimately rest on every individual player's play style and Guardian Class, so after reading the case and history of the New Monarchy, make sure to read our explainers of the other two factions (and the rewards that may be delivered at steep discounts to their members should they win the Rally) below:

And for players who think pledging loyalty to a faction based purely on loot, and not on tradition, lore, or role-playing is missing the point, prepare to learn why your Guardian may be a New Monarchy soldier already.
So You Want To Join New Monarchy
'Hope will be born from the collective triumphs of the king in us all.'
Visual Style: Knights of the Round Table.. in Space
It's hard to discuss the New Monarchy faction of the Destiny universe without feeling a bit defensive: where the other factions are based squarely in the ambitions and unknowable future of science fiction, this faction seems a more fitting relic of the past. It's also easy to misinterpret the fictional values of the group - well, one value in particular. Imagine the group as an order of knights trying to lift the people of Earth out of another Dark Age, and you're on the right track (which is why their armors and white-and-red shader sets call so clearly on chivalrous and royal motifs). We're also talking about true chivalry here, not one intended to simply glamorize warfare or military might: the gathering of City residents at a storefront next to the faction's Tower location shows they are figuratively AND literally serving the people.
advertising
The true meaning of the faction's motto - 'Together We Rise'- is evident, then.. but to do it, the New Monarchy believes that a new monarch will be needed. A single person embodying the values and fortitude to lead the broken remnants of humanity and their Guardians towards a new age. An age in which the Earth can be reclaimed by what remains of its people, followed by the rest of the solar system. Fans of democracy typically blush at the idea of installing a new monarch - a king or queen with total power - but given the setting of Destiny 2, and the authority already granted to Guardians 'chosen' by the Traveler, it's less of a leap than you might think.
advertising
For a deeper dive into the lore of New Monarchy and its leader, Executor Hideo, check out the following video (for the basics, skip below):
If the idea of joining up with essentially space knights of the future seeking to appoint a fitting monarch to a new Earthly throne sounds tempting, it should. The idea of inherent integrity or greatness is what Bungie has built their games on, and it's the same here. While the New Monarchy may be ferocious in preventing disunity among the remaining humans - having wiped out the previous faction Concordat for attempting to overthrow the democratic leadership - they value peace most of all. Their true mission statement is to have all controlling factions accept and select a monarch together. And since their first choice for the job was Zavala, the Titan Vanguard, their hearts are in the right place.
advertising
If pledging loyalty to the faction, then expect to unlock knightly armor and shaders of reds, whites, and golds. The weapon set to be unlocked as part of the Faction Rally event is the Interregnum XVI (Sidearm), a fully automatic pistol with significant ammunition and perks befitting a knight of the New Monarchy. Faster ability to aim down the sights, and quicker reload times when emptying the clip - and if the faction wins out, available to members for just 1,000 Glimmer.
Choose your faction wisely, but if you're role-playing the kind of Guardian who believes Earth is humanity's home, and a new age of Camelot is just over the horizon, New Monarchy is where you're among friends.
advertising
Destiny 2's Faction Rally will run from 2:00 am PST on September 26 to 2:00 am PST on October 3, 2017. The faction with the most packages unlocked with be announced soon after, with the item of that faction going on sale to members for 1,000 Glimmer.. and to everyone else for fifty times the price.

9: Dawnblade Warlock
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Dawnblade has everything it needs to be successful in PvP in Destiny 2, AKA the Crucible. The problem is that it’s grossly overshadowed.
By far, its super is the hardest to use out of all of the Warlock subclasses, and there’s not really a big payoff either. It’s trickier to use, easier for enemies to dodge versus Nova Warp and Stormtrance, and even under optimal conditions, won’t necessarily get you more kills.
In PvP, the new super, Well of Radiance, really isn’t worth using outside of some heavily coordinated situations.
Don’t get us wrong. In PvE, Well of Radiance has turned the Dawnblade into a total god, but in PvP, we’ll opt for something more practical.
8: Nightstalker Hunter
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Nightstalker, like the other entries towards the bottom of this list, is certainly viable. It’s just overshadowed by the other Hunter subclasses, and everything else in general.
Its main problem is that its super is not the greatest for getting kills and is better suited to just sabotage other enemies while they are supercharged. Just because you anchor someone, doesn’t mean you’re going to get around to killing them. It is possible for them to get away, or for a teammate to help bail them out,
All that said, the Nightstalker can be incredibly powerful when used tactically in the right hands in a game of competitive or Trials of the Nine. Tactically saving your super to shutdown an enemy super that you’re worried about can clutch a match.
7: Sunbreaker Titan
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Sunbreaker is a safe, and powerful Titan subclass but compared to the other two, lack the utility and sheer power. It’s a bit of a one trick pony.
Its super is extremely powerful, and safer to use than most others. From a distance, as long as you have halfway decent aim, you can easily run through an opposing team. It’s a bit limited by the number of throws you have, but it’s reliable.
Next, you have thermite grenades, which are fairly unique in their ability to lock down a lane or a point. It’s wide enough to force people to move away or risk getting killed.
Finally, like all other Titans, it has a “shoulder charge” melee which will one hit KO an enemy. And, as an added bonus, soften up nearby enemies for a follow up attack which should also kill them in one shot if you’re quick about it.
The Sunbreaker is only where it’s at on this list because of the stiff competition, and the lack of utility compared to the Sentinel, and offensive potential compared to the Striker. It’s arguably the safest of the three to use, though.
6: Arcstrider Hunter
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
Although it’s number 6, the Arcstrider is still one of the best PvP jobs you can play. It just faces some very stiff competition up at the top.
The Arcstrider’s primary claim to fame is its roaming super. Up until Forsaken, it lacked some of the pizazz of the other roaming supers like Sentinel, Striker, or Sunbraeker. However, with the new Whirling Guard path, you have some defensive utility now too.
If someone fires at you while you’re using Whirling Guard, you can deflect those bullets right back at them. This gives you an opportunity to close the gap more safely, or at least just evacuate yourself from a sticky spot so you don’t have to waste your entire super. Plus, you might get some kills with it too.
Other than that, the Arcstrider favors Hunters that prefer up close and personal play, as they have perks that sync up with dodging and melee attacks. So if you’re a shotgunner, consider using the Arcstrider.
5: Stormcaller Warlocks
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Stormcaller since it was introduced in Destiny 1, is maybe the most unchanged, and simple to use classes, especially in PvP. Which is totally fine because the Stormcaller is so powerful.
While the Stormcaller has a lot of neat tools at its disposal, you’re picking it for its hyper aggressive super that will make you nigh-unkillable as you just roll around the battlefield like Raiden and shock everyone to death. Because of the range, a lot of times, you’ll notice people not even bother to run or fight you if you pop it nearby. Making eye contact with a super-charged Stormcaller is basically a death sentence.
The new super, Chaos Reach, adds a little bit of versatility. It’s a lot easier for people to run away from, but, you have way more range and can snipe enemies and objectives practically from across the map with relative ease.
4: Striker Titan
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Striker is a solid PvP choice. There’s stiff competition, which is why it’s smack in the middle of this ranking. But you can’t go wrong with it, either.
It has an extremely powerful super in Fist of Havoc. You can clear out a pack of enemies with a slam, and then go hunt down any stragglers, and hell, go ahead and slam them again if they are dumb enough to regroup with you still hunting about.
On top of that, you have a choice of three excellent grenades each with their own unique utility (Pulse, Flashbang and Lightning) and have the ability to carry two of them at a time. Finally, like all the Titans now, you have a one-hit kill Shoulder Charge attack.
Finally, the new super. It’s a bit niche, but there’s nothing more satisfying than launching yourself from across the map to come crashing down on an objective out of nowhere to wipe a whole team.
3: Sentinel Titan
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
It might be surprising to see the Sentinel up this high. Its has more of a defensive tinge to it, compared to the other two Titan subclasses.
However, the Sentinel is just a very balance PvP class right now. It has a roaming Super that not only can wreck enemies up close, you also can throw your shield from a distance to catch people running away.
On top of that, you can actually close the distance from enemies that got a jump by you by raising your shield up and guarding. A trick that lots of players in Crucible forget they can do.
The Sentinel, like the other Titans, have a one shot shoulder charge melee, and they also can go for Defensive Strike for an edge in intense close quarters brawls.
PLUS, if you really wanted to get cheeky, Ward of Dawn is available on that top path to lock down an objective.
The Sentinel can just do a whole lot really well, and that’s why it ranks so highly here.
2: Gunslinger Hunter
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Gunslinger was arguably the best PvP subclass BEFORE Forsaken. Golden Gun was, and still is, one of the most powerful supers you can use in the Crucible. From a safe distance, you can wipe an entire team in a matter of seconds if they are lined up right for you.
The Gunslinger got yet another awesome tool in Forsaken with its new super, Blade Barrage. Blade Barrage is essentially a Solar Nova Bomb, but it happens in an instant, and it’s incredibly deadly.
Blade Barrage is extremely powerful and is capable of shutting down someone who is super’d up themselves. Unlike a Nova Bomb that travels slowly (at least in comparison to this super), the Blade Barrage is almost instant. So if you see a threat or an opportunity, you can fire it up, and in a instant eliminate them.
The Way of a Thousand cuts path also has better PvP synergy with the other older paths for the Gunslinger. Its melee lights enemies on fire which charges your dodge ability and helps speed up another melee strike.
The Gunslinger is just so powerful right now, and you can’t go wrong with either it, or the next subclass on this list.
1: Voidwalker Warlock
Destiny 2 Best PvP Classes, Ranked
The Voidwalker was already a solid PvP class before the Forsaken expansion. Now, it’s an absolute terror with its new super: Nova Warp. This super essentially turns the Voidwalker into an unstoppable archon of destruction. It will teleport right up into your face, and effortlessly kill you and anyone else near you with the tap of button, and then zoom on over to kill someone else.
If that isn’t enough, the Attunement of Fission can still get all explode-y on you with both its melee and grenade special abilities. Watch your back if you’re on an objective with a buddy. Seriously.
Even without Attunement of Fission, the Voidwalker is no slouch. There was nothing wrong with Nova Bomb in Crucible before Forsaken, and it’s certainly still deadly now.
At the end of the day, your best defense against a Voidwalker running the Nova Warp is just to run. Run far, far away. Don’t look back. Go hide and call a coroner for your fallen brothers and sisters.

To obtain the items they have, you'll need to trade them for rewards Tokens, which you earn by destroying supplies found in Lost Sectors or doing Public Events, Crucible matches, strikes, and the Raid. In related news, a Destiny 2 PC-only update was released ahead of the debut of Faction Rallies. Bungie has released the 1.0.6.2 hotfix, which is intended to resolve a technical issue that cropped up with a previous patch. The 1.0.6 update made changes to how Faction Tokens are earned.
